Wrote to Marian (Market Weighton) to tell her of my safe arrival here by Saturday's mail – Mrs
James Holroyd called – walked to Halifax, put my letter into the P.O and called at Northgate – I met
Miss Prescott senior there – my aunt looking as spruce as possible Mrs Veitch was to drink
tea with her – Left a note from my aunt Anne for Mrs Veitch containing a loan of 6 of Rawson’s
pound notes – 

 Got home to dinner. Spent the afternoon in conversation – In the evening writing out (fr[om]
Memoranda on scraps of paper) a rough draft of what I had spent and of my journal of what
occured during my stay there – Frosty day – Barometer 1 1/2 degrees above rain – Fahrenheit 28° at 9 p.m.

Thurs[day] 25 9 11 40/60  We all went to morn[in]g ch[ur]ch and st[ai]d the sacram[en]t, assist[e]d my aunt in r[ea]ding pray[er]s  in the aft[ernoo]n. In the ev[ening] r[ea]d al[ou]d serm[on]s 8 and 9 Hoole – A remark[abl]y fine frosty day –    Roads ver[y] slipp[er]y – Barom[eter] 1 1/2 deg[rees] ab[ov]e chang[a]ble Fahr[enheit] 29° at 9p.m – Fri[day] 26 8 12 In the morn[in]g wrote a full sheet to Mrs H. J. Belcombe (Newcastle Haffordsh[ire]) in anw[er] to her last let[ter] dat[e]d 7 Nov[ember] and rec[ieve]d by me fr[om] the hands of M-[Mariana] in Petergate York, Tues[day] ev[ening]  9 Dec[ember] – Just bef[ore] and dur[in]g din[ner] look[in]g ov[e]r my acc[oun]ts. Tuesday 23rd, Wednesday 24th December 1817

Tues[day] 23 9 1/4  12 In the morning writing out a rough draft of my journ[al] of last Sat[urday], Fri[day], Thurs[day], Wed[nesday] a nd Tues[day]. Did noth[ing] in the aft[ernoo]n but count ov[e]r my money and see what I h[a]d spent  while away – Aft[er] tea wrote the rough draft of p[ar]t of my journ[al] of Mon[day] 15 Dec[ember]. My   aunt gave me an acc[oun]t of what she h[a]d h[a]d for my mourning w[hi]ch amount[e]d to   £8-0-6 the 6d being abat[e]d – I h[a]d her spends, she hav[in]g 1 st   giv[e]n me £5 and my unc[le]  als[o] hav[in]g me £5.
